about

Here is my song called 'Where We Lay Our Bodies Down (for Ann Lovett)'. This month marks the 40th anniversary of her tragic death and that of her baby boy. She died after giving birth to her stillborn baby at a grotto in Granard, Longford on the 31st of January 1984. Her death represents a dark time in Ireland and her story is lodged deep in the national consciousness. When the story broke at the time, hundreds of letters were sent to The Gay Byrne Show in what became know as The Ann Lovett letters. The letters contained an outpouring of untold stories by many Irish women who were inspired to write because of the tragedy. The radio program said of the letters back then, ‘Time and again they make the point that being able to write it all down is a relief. They thank Ann Lovett for giving them the courage to express what they have kept secret’
RIP Ann Lovett and her baby boy.

lyrics

V1
I dreamt last night of you my love
Treading your beat as idle as the wind
From the valley below we rose up above
I’ll give your heart ease til the bitter end
Give you heart ease til the bitter end
Give your heart ease love til the bitter end

Chorus
Under the moonlight
Under the starlight
Where we lay our bodies down
Where we lay our bodies down

V2
We drifted through that world of gold
And built the life that we dreamed of
I watched you grow to see you hold
No border in your boundless love
No border in your boundless love
No border in your boundless love

Chorus
So on we go from where we came
Two beating hearts in God’s dark light,
He’s never going to find you where you lay
Buried in my arms tonight
Buried in my arms tonight
Buried in my arms tonight

Under the moonlight
Under the starlight
Where we lay our bodies down
Where we lay our bodies down
